New Years 2012: Action Figure Display @ The Bean Cafe, Philadelphia

In recent months, The Bean Café added a display case in the shop that houses action figure dioramas showcasing vintage action figures from the 1970's, 1980's and more. So far the display case has had a spooky Halloween display and a unique Holidays display with a muscle-bound Santa Claus delivering presents in an Star Wars AT-AT Walker and more. The staff at The Bean Café promises to bring us many more of these figure dioramas and also showcase other curios in the upcoming months and into the future. So stop by this independently owned coffee shop if you live in or are visiting Philadelphia. At 615 South Street, it's conveniently located in the heart of the famous South Street District.

This display really ties the already cozy room together nicely. It's a great place to perhaps read a comic and enjoy a cup of coffee (the amazing Atomic Comics is right across the street) or whatever your “bean routine” might be. While there, have a look at the display case near the front door. Currently on display you will notice a detailed custom model of The Bean Café (made scale to 3 3/4” action figures). As you will see in the rest of the display, it is 2012 and all hell has broken loose, but amidst the rubble and debris, The Bean Café still stands (14 years strong and counting) so that while the Cobra troops take a break, they still have a cozy place to warm up with a coffee and catch up with old friends.

The 2012 rapture display is still up, but it was also accompanied by an art show in the cafe entitled "Action Figure Extravaganza" which has since come down. This show displayed action figure inspired art by a variety of local photographers and artists. I took some photos at the show and will post them here soon so anyone who missed the show can take a peek at what they missed. But in the meantime, check out the display case. It's an essential stop for any action figure enthusiasts in the Philadelphia area.
